SERVICE MATTERS IN CENTRAL GOVERNMENT JOBS

A number of persons are joining the services under the Government of India periodically. When they initially join Government Service, it may appear to them as though things in office are difficult and incomprehensible. But, after learning a few basic things relating to the job, their confidence level will increase. Thereafter, they will start learning the intricacies of their job. This is the job specific experience, which every individual undergoes after entering service.

But there is a subject, common to all government employees, which they will be eager to learn as soon as they enter service. This subject relates to their recruitment, the perquisites which they will be getting, their seniority, their promotion prospects, the leave facilities, the retirement benefits, the code of conduct, disciplinary rules etc. In fact, most of the candidates seeking entry into Government Service will be interested to know, at least briefly, some of these issues even before joining service. But, many Government Servants do not get opportunities to learn most of these things for quite some time in their career. This subject is commonly called as ‘Service matters’ (also known as ‘Personnel matters’).

Service matters in Government cover a wide area and each area consists of a number of rules, innumerable orders, court judgements, instructions, clarifications etc. Further, the words used in government rules, regulations, instructions etc are complex and lengthy. New entrants as well as prospective entrants to the job may find them not only difficult to locate but also difficult to comprehend. The aim of this book is to give at one place a very brief and simple account of some of these service matters in an introductory way for the benefit of the new entrants, the prospective entrants and also the existing employees.

But there is a word of caution. Subsequent to the publication of this book there are changes in the pay structure etc of Government employees on the basis of Pay Commission recommendations. So, the book is slightly out of date. Yet it will be useful to know something broadly about service matters in Government by reading this book.

This gives information on employment opportunities in central government in India.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN CENTRAL GOVERNMENT

There are career opportunities in Defence Services as well as in Civil Services and Posts under the Government of India for well-qualified candidates. There are also career opportunities in the Public Sector Undertakings, Statutory Bodies, Autonomous Organisations etc. The Union Public Service Commission, the Staff Selection Commission, the Railway Recruitment Boards etc conduct competitive examinations for recruitment to various civil services and posts.

An attempt has been made in this book to bring together some of the job opportunities in the Government of India. The various types of recruitment conducted by the Army, the Navy and the Air Force have been compiled based on the information available through their advertisements and their websites. Similarly, the Scheme and Syllabus of the various examinations being conducted by the Union Public Service Commission and the Staff Selection Commission have also been compiled.

But there is a word of caution. As recruitment requirements undergo changes over periods of time, this book will be slightly out of date. However, it will give a broad idea about employment in Government.

This is a story based on Hindu Mythology

A LITTLE GIRL VISITS KAILASH

This book is for young kids. This is a pictorial representation of my book titled ‘Yathni’s Travel to Kailash’. '

Yathni's Travel to Kailash' is a beautiful story. There are two main characters in that story. One of them is Yathni, a little girl studying in Fifth Grade. The other one is Ganesha, the cute little god of Hinduism. Yathni is an ardent devotee of Ganesha. Pleased with her devotion, Ganesha takes Yathni on an excursion to Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva. How was this excursion, what were the things which Yathni saw on the way and what were the things which she learnt? These are dealt with in ‘Yathni’s Travel to Kailash’.

This book titled 'A Little Girl visits Kailash' has been prepared with the intention that the message contained in 'Yathni's Travel to Kailash' should also be conveyed to young kids. So, it is given in the form of pictorial representation of the main book. Young kids will definitely enjoy this book.

Basic idea about Intellectual Property Rights are given here.

AN INTRODUCTION TO INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

Intellectual Property is a subject of recent origin. We own houses, jewels, shares, money in the form of cash etc. These are the things we know as 'Properties'. These are tangible assets. We enjoy them as we own them. Unless and until we offer them to somebody else, these things which we own cannot be taken away and enjoyed by others. 'Intellectual Property', on the other hand, refers to the ownership of intangible and non-physical goods. It results from the expression of an idea. It is the property of your mind or a proprietary knowledge. Since it is the property of your mind, the moment it is divulged, the benefits arising from these ideas can be enjoyed by others.

The concept of Intellectual property, therefore, provides that certain products of human intellect should be given the same protective rights that apply to physical properties. This is known as Intellectual Property Rights. It includes Copyright, Related Rights, Patents, Trademarks, Industrial Design and Geographical Indications.

This book of mine gives a brief outline as to what are the various facets of Intellectual Property and how to protect them from possible exploitation. It is intended for college going students.

This gives a brief account of the law relating to Copyright in India.

A BRIEF INSIGHT ON COPYRIGHT IN INDIA

Intellectual Property is a subject of recent origin. It refers to the ownership of intangible and non-physical goods. It results from the expression of an idea. It is the property of the mind or a proprietary knowledge. Since it is the property of the mind, the moment it is divulged, the benefits arising from these ideas can be enjoyed by others. The concept of intellectual property provides that certain products of human intellect should be given the same protective rights that apply to physical properties. This right is the ‘Intellectual Property Right’. Copyright is one of the subject matters of Intellectual Property Rights.

Copyright is an exclusive right given by law for a certain number of years to an author, composer etc. (or his assignee) to print, publish and sell copies of his original work. It can be defined as the legal right to be the only one to reproduce, publish, and sell a book, musical recording, etc., for a certain period of time. This book deals rather extensively on the subject of copyright in India along with case laws.
